A Triceratops Horn Shows the One that Got Away

by Bernard K. Means

One of the fossils 3-D scanned by the Virtual Curation Laboratory is the left horn of an adult Triceratops and was recovered from the Hell Creek Formation of Montana. It exhibits healed damage from a Tyrannosaurus rex. You can read more about this significant fossil here: https://www.myfossil.org/featured-fossil-triceratops-vs-tyrannosaurus/. This fossil was collected from federal lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management, under permit. Museum specimen number VMNH 120763. The Virginia Museum of Natural History provided permission for the fossil to be 3-D scanned. Then Virginia Commonwealth University student Krista Bueno created a two-page comic about this important fossil.
