Cities and states across the U.S. promote their efforts to protect and preserve the past for the future through dedicated archaeology weeks or months. Maryland’s Archaeology Month takes place in April each year, so this year’s began less than a week ago. Earlier this year I was contacted by Silas Hurry, Curator of Collections and Archaeological Laboratory Director at Historic St. Mary’s City (HSMC) about the possibility of the Virtual Curation Laboratory 3D scanning some artifacts from Maryland to promote Maryland Archeology Month 2016. This year, Maryland’s Archeology Month celebrates a half century of archaeology at HSMC.

Two of the objects we 3D scanned were 17th-century keys from HSMC.  These can be found via this link: http://marylandarcheology.org/Arch_Month_2016/3_D_Print.html.

We plan on promoting Archaeology Months for Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia via artifacts that we 3D scanned from those states.
